We converted TATA’s Long Haul Truck model 3518 from Diesel to LNG for Adani Group. The objective of the project was to convert the Tata long haul truck from Diesel Fuel to Liquid Natural Gas Fuel for better performance, reduced emission, low maintenance and low operational cost.
We worked in the workshop for weeks to prepare a solid plan of action so that it succeeds in the first attempt. The plan was prepared with all the benefits, requirements, hurdles and presented in front of Adani’s management for approval. After the approval it took us about 2-3 months to complete the first in India conversion of Diesel engine to LNG fuel.
Central Electronics Limited requested for conversion of existing Cummin’s Diesel Generator Model KTA 1150 – 19 Ltrs, 320kVA to PNG Fuel. We as always prepared the proof of concept in workshop and presented to CEL’s management. It took us 2 months to convert the Diesel generator to natural gas.
The conversion of an existing diesel engine to 100% natural gas engine is achieved by making changes in the existing engine architecture. The steps included modifying the engine cylinder bore, replacing the pistons, cylinder heads with valves in order to reduce the compression ratio of the existing diesel engine.
The next steps included the installation of CNG pipe with hoses, valves, gas cut-off solenoid etc.
The final step included the installation of the electronic control unit & wiring harness along with gas injectors, a high-pressure reducer, filters & sensors.
A fisherman society from Karaikal, Tamil Nadu reached us for conversion of their fishing boat diesel engines into Dual fuel (Diesel and LPG). Earlier attempts by other companies resulted in seizing of boat engines so we took the challenge and worked day and night to come with the conversion kit.
We went back to the concept board and prepared a kit specifically to run with the existing Diesel engines in rugged conditions.
The project started in May – June 2024 but due to reluctant owners the project was halted. In September some of the fisherman agreed to provide the boat but it took almost a month to actually implementation of the kit for testing. The diesel only boat engines got implemented with Dual Fuel conversion kit for better performance, and low operational costs.
